The Duval High School Instrumental Music Program (#DHSIM) exists for the purpose of:
- teaching students life skills through the medium of instrumental music
- the promotion and presentation of high quality musical experiences to enhance the lives of the performers (students) and the recipients (parents, teachers, other students and the community)
- the support of the overall goals of cultural change and atmosphere in the school and community
- to provide an outlet for the development and expression of humanity via musical artistic creativity.
The motto of the program is simple: “Superior Effort in All Things.”
Students in the instrumental music program are encouraged to guide their life and participation in this program by the following creed:
“Highest Quality of CHARACTER”
“Achievement in ACADEMICS”
“Attainment in LEADERSHIP”
“Perfection in MUSICIANSHIP”
“Dedication to SERVICE”
“PERSEVERANCE through Adversity”
These things serve as the measuring stick by which we evaluate the growth of the student over time. A student dedicated to these principles will serve the society and culture not just as a good musician, but as a mature and responsible human being capable of contributing to all aspects of the community they live in.
More than band. More than orchestra. It’s a culture, a mindset and a movement.
